The Homemade Aeroplane is our own club - a sporadic series of Wreckless Eric & Amy Rigby concerts in our house in Catskill NY.
The Homemade Aeroplane has a capacity of around forty to forty-five people. We use all our own equipment including the famed Empress Of Catskill Public Address System.
We originally had the idea when we still lived in England - we staged our own house concert to help finance a removal to France. People said we were crazy to invite total strangers into our house but it was fine and we actually became friends with a lot of the people who came.
The playing conditions are a lot better than in a lot of the clubs and venues we've been playing in for the past thirty years and more. We get a great sound in our own place, and instead of driving for hundreds of miles and dealing with the vagaries of whatever life on the road throws at us - broken PA systems, horrible hotels, stroppy promoters, illness and malfunctioning equipment... we put our energies into creating a special show and a unique ambiance.
We play two sets and for part of the second set we usually act as a backing band for a surprise special guest (previous guests include David Greenberger, Brian Dewan, Amy Alison, Clay Harper, Karen Schoemer and Tim & Susan Lee).
For this show however we've chosen not to have a surprise guest. Instead we’re going to play some new material from Amy’s in the works solo album and my new album “amERICa”, along with a selection of old favourites. It’s going to be a turbulent flight!
We charge a donation of $20.00 per person and ask people to bring something to share round - wine, beer, a dish of something, chocolate, a box of oranges... it doesn't matter what but the sharing is important because people get together. It gives us great pleasure to see people who were strangers five minutes ago taking over our kitchen and feeding each other.
The next show is on Saturday 6th January.
Tickets are available in advance, and only in advance, and payment has to be made via Paypal. If you haven't got a Paypal account it's very easy to get on, but if you're one of those people who can't manage it for some reason you can email me: wrecklesseric@hotmail.co.uk and we'll work something out.
Having booked a seat you'll eventually get an email with details of how to get here and all that. And unless the US postal service finally packs up all together you'll receive boarding passes in the mail, much like the one shown below. Hope you can fly with us soon!
